HBC Hiking group undertook a slightly steeper test on Saturday, 21st July. We set off from the foot of the Fan ridge, below Pen-y-Fan in the Brecon Beacons but on the west side of the A470 from Brecon to Merthyr Tydfil.

Quite easy walking at first, via a photo stop at the Fan Frynych trig point, then the contours came much closer together as we headed for the summit of Fan Faw (734m), where we stopped for lunch with wonderful views all around and down to three Beacons reservoirs. Then a steep descent back to the A470 by the Storey Arms Outdoor Centre and a short stretch of the Taff Trail back to the layby where we had parked. Just under 8 miles in total. Thence to a lovely ice cream cafe in Brecon where we undid some of our good work.

Many thanks to AG for leading us. Watch out for details of the next hike in the HBC newsletter.
