MMSW
Mission to Migrant Seasonal Workers
The Baptist churches of Hereford, Ross-on-Wye and Gorsley have been working together for a number of years now with the vision and aims of:
- God’s people engaging in holistic Christian mission to seasonal workers, migrant peoples and their families, responding to a God-given opportunity to serve others and share Christ.
- Engaging in the ministry of evangelism, social action, workplace pastoral support, social inclusion, peace-making, environmental and social justice issues.
For a long time Herefordshire has benefited from the influx of numbers of migrant and seasonal workers. In particular, they have supported the agriculture, manufacturing and hospitality sectors of the county’s economy as well as medical provision. In recent years, migrant and seasonal workers from Eastern Europe have been visiting the county in increasing numbers – estimated to be up to 20,000 each year.

In March 2009, we appointed a full time Polish speaking Project Worker, Ania Talalaj to work alongside our part time Project Coordinator, Maxine Thompson and members of the three congregations. With the continuing support of the Baptist Union (Home Mission), BMS World Mission and the Heart of England Baptist Association, the three Herefordshire churches continue to move forwards in our mission to migrant and seasonal workers.
